Connecting Datto RMM

SeatReaper reads every Datto RMM device: when it was last seen, whether it is online, whether it is in the recycle bin, and who last signed in to it. It never runs jobs, changes devices or touches policies.

Create an API user

  1. In Datto RMM, open Setup > Global Settings > Access Control and turn on Enable API Access.
  2. Create a user for SeatReaper (or pick an existing one) whose security level can view settings, sites and devices for all sites. Read access is all SeatReaper needs.
  3. Open Setup > Users, choose that user, and choose Generate API Keys. Copy the API key and the API secret key: the secret is shown once. Note the API URL on the same page, for example https://merlot-api.centrastage.net; the word before -api is your platform.

Generating keys again replaces the old ones, so update SeatReaper if you do.

Connect

An owner opens Settings > Integrations > Datto RMM, chooses the platform, pastes the API key and secret, and chooses Connect Datto RMM. SeatReaper signs in to check them, saves them encrypted, and runs the first sync. After that Datto RMM syncs every day with your other connections, and Sync now checks at any time.

How sites are linked to clients

Each Datto RMM site is linked to the client with the same name, ignoring capitals, punctuation and endings like Inc or LLC. If two clients would match, neither is linked.

For sites that did not match, owners and techs pick the client under Datto RMM sites on the Integrations page. A picked link is kept on every sync; choose Automatic to go back to matching by name. The same list exists for Pax8 companies.

What SeatReaper does with it

  • Dead devices: a Datto RMM device that is offline and has not been seen for the device threshold (60 days unless you change it) is flagged, but only if every other tool it appears in also considers it dead. See What SeatReaper flags.
  • Offboarding: Datto RMM devices appear in the device list when you offboard someone. A device whose last signed-in user is the person is ticked for you, and it is confirmed gone when it leaves Datto RMM or moves to the recycle bin.
  • Prices: set your monthly cost per Datto RMM device in the price book.

Disconnect

An owner chooses Disconnect on the Datto RMM card. SeatReaper deletes the sites and devices it synced and stops reading. To revoke access completely, regenerate or delete the API user's keys in Datto RMM.

In compliance reports

On Growth and Pro, Datto RMM devices are the RMM column of the Device inventory and gaps report in the compliance evidence reports. A device any tool has seen recently counts as active, and active devices with no EDR or backup are listed first.
